Are you considering moving to Western Oklahoma? I have to say personally this is the best place I have ever lived. I am a native Okie, born and raised in Norman. I loved growing up there. I also pictured myself moving to CA or NY someday. However, God had other plans for me. I have lived in OKC, Edmond, Dallas, and other areas before relocating to Elk City, Oklahoma in 2007.
This part of the state is just easy-going. When I first started visiting here, I even noticed the drive was more laid back versus my drive from Norman to Dallas. The people were friendly and engaging. Strangers wanted to stop and talk in the grocery store—I had never experienced that before. Church was different as well, it was really about getting to know people. I never dreamed I would live in a small community, but I am so glad I do. This has been a wonderful place to raise my girls. One graduated from Elk City High School, and the other will be graduating this year from Merritt Schools. I loved both of the schools, and they each fit the needs for my girls perfectly.
Life in Elk City real estate and community living moves at a slower pace and feels easy going. But it also offers so much more. Living here is special and even surprising. Here are some of my Top 5 Favorite Things About Living in Western Oklahoma:
1. Community Events & Festivals

They bring families together, create memories, and remind us why community matters. 2. Local Dining & Small Business
Our locally owned and operated restaurants and shops are like no other. You’ll often see the owners themselves running these businesses, greeting you at the door, and thanking you for stopping by. The community supports them, and in turn, they support the community. From unique boutiques to family diners, these small businesses give Western Oklahoma its heart. When relocating, many buyers want to know what daily life looks like—and these local gems are a big reason people choose to make Elk City their home.
